Production
Whilst timber is clearly the primary raw material in our products, others are used. We also use chipboard, medium density fibre board and laminated wood for some seat frames and back panels, fabrics for upholstery and a range of woodstains, oils and waxes for finishing our products.
The Situation Today
One of the major advantages of wood is that at the end of its useful life it can be recycled, composted or burnt with no detriment to the environment. Since 2001 all new H J Berry designs can be made in a 100% recyclable option with components derived from sustainable sources. We are also offering eco-friendly options on our standard ranges and introducing a range of natural oil finishes, which bring out the beauty of the wood, rather than the more commonly used lacquers that contain chemical solvents.
Ongoing Projects
We are working towards the introduction of a range of recyclable options including natural oils and waxes and organic fabrics and upholstery fillings. We are also moving away from chemical solvent based lacquers in favour of water-based lacquers.
Our Aim
A non-polluting business.
