POLO – A 'HOLE' NEW CONCEPT IN DINING

The new Polo dining set from HJ Berry introduces a ‘hole’ new concept in dining – combining innovative space-saving features with environmentally friendly materials.

Crafted from solid ash from English woodlands, the Polo range gets its name from the stylish circular glass inset feature which creates the impression of a hole in the middle – just like its minty namesake.

When not in use, the four chairs tuck neatly underneath – the seats specially designed to align perfectly against each other.

HJ Berry’s Design Manager Caroline Hoyle said: “The range is all about space-saving, which is crucial in today’s homes. The clever design features means that people can have a full dining set even in the smallest of kitchens.”

Caroline added: “As with all HJ Berry dining tables and chairs, the Polo range is made from wood from sustainable English sources. We have chosen ash because not only is it solid and extremely durable, but is aesthetically pleasing to look at.

“The open grain is wild and more random than the most commonly used beech timber, giving it a more organic shape and look.

“The heat-resistant glass inset makes a feature of the grain, along with the cross-frame and chair seats when they are stowed underneath.”

Preston-based HJ Berry is Britain’s oldest chairmaker, but prides itself on innovative designs that make the most of today’s living space.

Other features in their range of dining sets include the Tough Top and Premier Tough Top tables which have the same heat and scratch-resistance as other kitchen work surfaces, which optimise working space.

The ash used to produce the new Polo range comes from the Forest of Bowland, which has been a source of timber for HJ Berry’s mill in Chipping since it first started manufacturing rush-seated chairs in the 1890s.

Now headed by the fifth generation of the Berry family, the firm pledges to plant and care for a tree for every dining set purchased and is a driving force behind the regeneration of Lancashire woodlands.
