The healthcare industry places special demands on its furniture. In care homes, chairs in particular are subjected to heavy use and it is often necessary to move a chair with a person sitting in it.

At H J Berry we have analysed the unique needs of the healthcare industry and produced a range of designs with special adaptations.

    • Chair arms are reinforced to better withstand the heavy use from residents leaning on them for support when getting in and out of the chair.

    • A gentle rocking motion can be included in chair backs. This motion has been shown to reduce stress levels in both patients and visitors.

    • Skis, castors and glides can be fitted to most chair designs for ease of moving residents, protecting the chair, the care worker’s back and the floor.

These special adaptations, however, do not mean that design quality must be compromised. The adaptations can be included in most of our standard range of chairs, which are available in a choice of woodshades and fabrics.
