Entertaining is made easy with HJ Berry’s new range of space saving designer furniture. The Flip & Slide extendable table is a simple concept specifically designed for people who like to have friends round but have limited dining space.

As part of an ongoing space saving project, Lancashire based chair makers, HJ Berry, has designed an innovative dining furniture collection which is specifically aimed at the ‘new generation’ in home entertaining.

Modern life dictates that a table has to be versatile and space conscious – from office desk to dining table and much more. Our homes are changing roles: the dining room has to multitask as a work zone and a space for entertaining.

Caroline Hoyle, HJ Berry’s Design Manager says, ‘we know people have busy lives these days, the ‘Flip & Slide table is a really simple idea. Being creative with space is so important, the Flip & Slide can be used for entertaining as well as working - it’s a multi-functional object’.

The idea behind the Flip & Slide dining range is that it is a standard four seater table which expands in seconds by ‘sliding’ the top to one side and ‘flipping’ the top leaf over, doubling the size by making the table big enough for six to eight people. The Flip & Slide table is shown with the Figure chair. Both table and chairs are available in various woodshades to suit any interior decor.

The Berry family have been making dining furniture for 150 years; their philosophy for being successful over the years has been in the integrity of the design.

Says Caroline, ‘we’ve been inspired by the past, we have to create design solutions now and for the future – we like to think that our furniture could be the next generation of antiques’.

Based in Chipping, HJ Berry furniture is made from handcrafted English hardwoods and the ‘Flip & Slide’ range is made from a natural beech veneer.

The company maintain a sustainable ethos by replenishing native woodlands with indigenous trees and for every piece of furniture made, HJ Berry plant and care for a tree, ‘we aim to re-establish the broadleaf woodlands – oak, ash, birch amongst others, right across the country’.
